A home often reflects the user’s heritage while presenting itself as the place of ultimate solitude.
Being placed in the busy districts of Mumbai, this 750sq.ft house respects the lineage of the client, hailing from the South of India.
The lack of a separate foyer area presented A with the opportunity to divide the rectilinear space into more specific zones. Upon entry, a large foyer unit welcomes its users serving as a physical and visual partition between the main entrance and the dining. Behind this unit is a built-in dining area that cosily sits in one of the houses corners.
A yellow wainscoting, reminiscent of their time spent in Pondicherry, runs throughout the living area. Finding its way through a long corridor, the wainscoting presents a path to a large yellow door, serving as an entry into the master bedroom.
Keeping in mind the nature of the city itself, wooden elements along with cane and fluted glass are intertwined in all the furniture that are first functional but also aesthetic. These flow throughout the space seamlessly being the only elements that exhibit even the slightest hint of demarcating the different zones. An earthy palette finds its way through fabric and décor, exuding a warmth nostalgic to the client’s heritage.
